Super Saturday

The weather was fabulous today. The thermometer registered a comfortable 76° and the air was filled with the fragrance from my lilac bush. There were dozens of butterflies and bee’s flittering from one blossom to another. I tried to capture them with the camera but wasn’t as successful as I would have liked. I need a better camera. I washed my car first thing this morning. Then I gave Missy a trim. She is such a cutie. From there it was sheets to be changed, three loads of laundry, and vacuuming. I had enough of that nonsense, so I spent the remainder of the afternoon in the backyard in the warm sun. As I sat doing nothing all I could think about was how incredibly blessed I am.

Last night we had a wonderful dinner and fellowship at Elkhorn County Club with members from church. Our church is kicking off Vision 3000. It’s a two year spiritual growth and giving opportunity that will impact the lives of thousands in our community by sharing with them the good news of Jesus Christ through our ministry.

I have a couple of community quilts I want to finish up tonight and another Patchwork block to finish. It’s hare to believe that April is only a few days away. There’s so much to do and so little time.

Until next time have a blessed life.

Time fly’s when you’re having fun. I feel like I’m going non stop and never accomplish anything. Because of that feeling of failure every week I’ve decided to make up a To Do List so I can readily refer back to all the things I do get done. I don’t expect to accomplish everything on my weekly list but I can at least look back and see that I have done something.

Saturday I took my Mom to get a perm and hair cut. Because of her recent health issues I didn’t want to leave her so I shopped, walked, and talked at the strip mall, and read. I stopped in at Jan’s Sewing Center to check out the latest and greatest in Viking sewing machines. That wasn’t my most productive three and half hours but it was a nice break from the usual. Truth be known, all I really want to do is work on my Patch Work Party blocks. That's a picture of the Champagne Toast block offered by Quilters Quarters. The brown floral in the center is my favoriate fabric in the line. I’m real excited to get this project completed. I love the soft romantic colors. Unfortunately I have a full time job that interferes with my life, that being quilting.

Today was our At Work Weight Watchers meeting and I had a .7 loss. This under a pound loss every week is really getting me down. I’ve my walking 10,000 plus steps a day for our Walk Across America Challenge so I though I would be down two or three pounds. Oh well.

There is fabric waiting to be handled and my sewing machine wants attention too so I’m going to get busy. One block a day, that’s all we ask.

Gods peace to you.

Pictures from the Guild meeting

Fabulous Friday

I love Friday’s and especially when it’s payday. The office was all a buzz over a $30 increase in our net pay, thanks to President Obama. It would appear to me that he lowered the standard dedication on our Federal income tax. Does this mean we will pay more when we file our 2009 taxes or his he actually lowering the tax rate?

Thursday night was our Quilt Guild meeting. I tried to get some pictures of the gorgeous quilts that members make and bring for show and tell. I get so inspired by these talented women. We even have a doll maker in the group. I look forward to this meeting every month. This week I will work on my sampler quilt blocks and get started quilting on my Sister’s Twister.

Wishing you a blessed day.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

My Dad passed on St. Patty’s day 35 years ago but I remember it like it was yesterday. He was only 55, too young to go with so much to look forward to. Well that’s my feeling but the Lord had something else in mind. I’ve learned through the years not to ask why. So as a result of this painful memory the thrill is gone when it comes to St. Patty’s Day.

Most of the staff at work came clad in their finest green. There was cake, ice cream, and various goodies throughout the building. To eliminate the temptations I stayed at my desk and focused at the job on hand. Tomorrow is our Weight Watchers meeting and I’m hoping with the extra walking I can lose more than a pound.

Our Walk America Team is well on their way. Most of our team members walked 11,000 plus steps on the first day. We’re on our way.

Wishing you a blessed day.

Things to look forward to.

Patchwork Party 2009 has arrived. If you’re a quilter you might want to check it out at www.patchworkparty2009.com. The blocks are just $7.00 but then you have to choose a finishing kit. If you’re creative you can create your own.

One of the couples from church gave a testimonial this morning. Hers spoke volumes to me. She quit her job of 12 years to teach school. That wouldn’t sound so risky if the front page of the paper didn’t picture teachers protesting layoffs. This was a leap of faith for her. I have been thinking about a career change for the past four years. I feel that the Lord has me where I’m at because there is a lesson to be learned and work to be done, because there has and is. I think I will need to spend more time in prayer. I would categorize a career as redefining.

Daffodils are being delivered from the Cancer society tomorrow. Tomorrow is a scheduled day off but I’m changing my schedule so I will be available to pass out the flowers. Tomorrow is the beginning of our Walk America challenge. It’s going to be a great week.

God Bless.

Fabulous Friday

Friday the 13th. has always been a good day in my life. I don’t know what all the fuss is about. I took a vacation day today and had a marvelous time. The weather was great so I walked to Michael’s to buy some pink T-shirts for my Walk Across America team, but they didn’t have any. Then I walked to Toys are Us looking for the 50’s anniversary Barbie and struck out there too. Oh well all was not lost because I got my walk in and enjoyed being outside in this beautiful spring like weather. I walked 8,055 steps, or 2.3 miles, stayed within my points and had 40 grams of fiber today. I’m feeling redefined.

I went grocery shopping this afternoon and stocked up on fruits and vegetables. The best part of that task was running into my oldest grandson, Ben. He is 22 and such a handsome young man. I’m so proud of him. When I got the grocery’s home HH put them away so I could sit and read for a while. This is a taste of what retirement will be like and I am so looking forward to that.

So tomorrow my agenda includes walking 9,000 steps, cleaning the house, a quick trip to JoAnn’s and loading my Sisters Twister quilt so I can start quilting on it. When it’s done I’ll post a picture. I’m hoping to get it done for Thursday’s quilt guild meeting.

Shabby Fabrics.com has their Patchwork Party 2009 block on their web site. It’s the Lovers Lane Block and it absolutely beautiful. Their finishing kit is pretty too. There is a mention of a preview tomorrow at patchwork party2009.com.

Have a blessed day.

Personal Growth

Greetings and Salutations

I had a situation with a co-worker today that left me feeling anything but the love. I just don’t understand why people do such stupid things. I took time out of my busy schedule to try and show this individual the errors of their ways and discovered they weren’t only stupid but stubborn too. After this encounter I started wondering how many people have felt the same about me. I don't think I'm stupid but I know I can be stubborn. I reflected on scriptures I recently studied with a small study group I was in. It’s not my place to judge this person and it isn’t important what I think. My role in this situation was to listen, share my thoughts in a non-judgmental way and offer my support. This is the kind of person I want to redefine myself as.

Life is about learning to love. It’s all about love and developing relationships with God and with other people. Our purpose on earth is not about acquiring possessions or attaining status. It would seem that if people focused on love and not greed and deception our country wouldn’t be in such a mess. It’s just a thought.

Patchwork Party 2009 Spring Edition starts next week. I’ve participated in two and I’m looking forward to seeing this new one. If you want more information on this go to http://www.patchworkparty2009.com/

The Journey Begins

I have decided to start this blog in an effort to give back to all those bloggers who have enriched and encourage me by sharing their experiences, creative ideas, and thoughts.

I am a jack of many trades and a master of none. This year I will be turning 60 and I have been giving a lot of thought about the long list of other things I want to do while I'm still young. Details of those thoughts are to follow. I am redefining who I am. I have set some terrific goals and look forward to sharing my journey of achievement with others.

My journey starts with getting healthy. That begins with, what else, diet and exercise. We started a Weight Watchers At Work program and have 20 plus participants. We are starting week 10 and have a combined weight loss of more than 250 lbs. I would have to say we are very successful.

On Monday we are starting a Walk Across American Challenge. We have a team of 10 women with a goal to walk 6,734,000 steps in 10 weeks. I'll keep you posted on our progress.
